Style E is a frame with through-tenons. This frame is 29″ x 35″ with 3″ frame members. The wood was hand picked for a particular customer looking for unusual figure in the wood. I was able to find a very nice piece of quarter-sawn Red Oak with a curly figure in addition to the rays associated with quarter-sawn Oak. It was dyed, then a coat of shellac applied and then stained with a finish of varnish wiped on for a very traditional look. The pyramid shaped pins are dyed black. A premium was paid for the extra-wide frame and the search for just the right piece, bringing the total of this custom Style F frame to $300.00.
All through-tenon frames start at $225.00
A companion piece to the other example of through-tenon joinery, this frame is made from the same piece of quarter-sawn Red Oak, dyed and finished in varnish. The frame members are 2-1/2″ wide with pyramid-shaped pegs dyed the same color of it’s companion. The frame is 33″x39″.
