This den was pretty much a blank slate. The leather sofa and television were in their final positions as was, of course, the fireplace. After deciding not to change the fireplace mantle and legs I thought that it could be refined to match the room and also the house better. The detailed appliqués made all the difference. Click for some before and after pictures.
There was also a reading chair that needed to placed. I designed an alcove for a chair that would not hide any of the bookcases and also give the room the feeling of a private library. The bookcases and trim are made from quarter sawn Sapele sealed with a garnet shellac with 3 coats acrylic lacquer.
